Abstract
The great concern for boosting the nation’s agricultural capacity is why this study is initiated to explore the role of Nigeria’s entertainment media in agricultural development. Anchored on social learning and technological determinism theories, the study adopts desk research method to obtain relevant data from books, journal, mass media, government records and other online sources. The study observes the diminishing trend of Nigeria’s agricultural development from 1960 till date and explains the potential role of entertainment media in enhancing the development of agriculture that Nigeria will be able to participate in the globalization process. It also discovers that globalization is driven by information and communication technologies globalisation thus, bringing about relative blending of global economic activities in an emergent economic order. The study argues that Nigeria needs to diversify her economy from oil to agriculture and solid mineral development so as to boost her export base and become visible in the globalisation process. The study recommends that true community media should be encouraged to cater for the development information needs at the grassroots level. It advocates that Agricultural Research Centres should partner with corporate organisations in sponsoring media entertainment programs that can educate the farmers on agricultural best practices.
