Abstract
The study examines the role of new media as sources of political information among youths in north central Nigeria. Three research questions and two hypotheses are addressed. The research design adopted for the study was survey; 399 copies of questionnaire were distributed to the respondents across the capital cities of the six states that comprised the North Central geo-political zone of Nigeria. Simple random sampling technique was used to select the respondents for the study. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze data. In addition, t test was used to test the hypotheses of the study. Findings show that there is no signficant difference among the various genders in their usage of new media as sources of political information. This was obtained at p Value of (.000) level of significance. The study also found that youths in North Central geo- political zone use new media to a large extent as sources of political information. Based on thefindings, it was recommended that youths should be encouraged to use alternative social media platforms to seek political information.
