Abstract
Nigeria returned to democratic governance in 1999 after 16 years of uninterrupted military rule. Despite the fact that journalists are meant to be the eyes, ears and the masses' advocate, the media still malnourish their audience in terms of depth or quantum of information which could actually strengthen the country's current democratic dispensation. Journalism as a profession appeals to the five sensory organs. Section 39, 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria dwells on the fundamental human rights and the freedom of the press. Journalists are expected to hold government accountable in all ramifications, which also calls for objectivity in reports. This strengthens the country's democracy and enhances good governance.
